September 22, 2026. Vanguard Renewables has signed an agreement to acquire Generate Upcycle’s North American operations, merging two industry leaders to create the leading food waste-to-renewable natural gas platform. Upon closing, the combined company will operate an expanded infrastructure network across the U.S. and Canada, strengthening its ability to meet growing demand for organic waste diversion and low-carbon energy solutions.
The transaction is a response to broader shifts underway across the resource recovery market. As landfill capacity constraints grow, corporate sustainability commitments expand, and organics diversion policies continue to emerge, demand is increasing for solutions that keep organic material out of landfills and put it to productive use. Through anaerobic digestion, those materials are transformed into renewable natural gas and other beneficial resources.
Upon closing, Generate Upcycle’s anaerobic digestion facilities and advanced depackaging facilities operating across New York and Ontario are expected to join Vanguard Renewables’ portfolio, bringing the combined platform to 19 facilities across North America. The transaction also establishes Vanguard Renewables’ presence in Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations market and creates additional recovery pathways capable of serving larger volumes of organic material across North America.

The transaction is expected to nearly double Vanguard Renewables’ current operating capacity by adding approximately 565,000 tons of food waste processing and 1.1 Bcf of renewable natural gas production annually.
