June 23, 2025. Freedom CNG, one of the nation’s top providers and distributors of compressed renewable natural gas (C/RNG), has acquired ComTech Energy (“ComTech”), a leader in innovative mobile fueling solutions for low-carbon fuels. The acquisition enables Freedom to evolve beyond fixed fueling infrastructure by offering a hub-and-spoke operational model, ultimately providing customers with flexible, cost-effective, and convenient low-carbon energy solutions across North America.
ComTech is widely recognized for pioneering on-site mobile refueling for C/RNG, standardizing gaseous fueling infrastructure, and accelerating the speed of deployment, primarily amongst blue-chip customers in the heavy-duty transportation sector.
James Ro, who previously served as President of ComTech, has joined Freedom as its Chief Commercial and Strategy Officer.
“This partnership with Freedom provides the ideal platform to significantly scale our vision for RNG distribution,” said Ro. “The strategic resources and growth capital they bring allows us to quickly build out our RNG hub-and-spoke infrastructure model and drive the accelerated adoption of RNG for heavy-duty transportation.”
“As we expand our expand our footprint in low‑carbon fuel solutions, acquiring ComTech Energy marks an important step in enhancing our ability to deliver efficient, innovative fueling infrastructure,” said Nick Kurtenbach, President and CFO of Freedom CNG. “By integrating ComTech’s assets and expertise, we can provide end-to-end infrastructure support and deliver turnkey fueling solutions for commercial fleets, municipalities, and other high-volume fuel users. In short, it allows us to offer a more comprehensive suite of solutions that support the transition to cleaner energy and meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
The ComTech acquisition enables Freedom to offer a hub-and-spoke infrastructure model providing mobile on-site refueling services directly to customers. This model delivers significant convenience and productivity – which is particularly important to heavy-duty fleets transitioning to sustainable alternative fuels. Freedom’s footprint now spans 25+ C/RNG fueling stations and 60+ O&M sites across North America.
“We’re excited to welcome ComTech’s talented team into our organization and look forward to leveraging their technical expertise as we work together to provide sustainable fueling options, pave the way for energy transition, and contribute to a lower-carbon future,” added Kurtenbach.
