RNG Coalition concludes RNG Conference with eye on tomorrow

January 6, 2026. RNG Coalition concluded its annual RNG Conference with a clear message: the North American renewable natural gas (RNG) industry has entered its next phase of growth, advancing toward expanded market access in multiple emerging areas while strengthening the foundations of existing clean fuel demand sources across North America.

“We have a clear vision for tomorrow,” RNG Coalition Founder & CEO Johannes Escudero told attendees at RNG Conference this week. “While we are doing everything we can to expedite deployment of RNG in medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, it’s also imperative that we identify new demand to keep up with increasing supply of RNG development.”

While RNG Coalition remains focused on influencing the future of energy by positioning RNG as a source of clean fuel, heat, power, products and services — including for the burgeoning artificial intelligence (AI) sector — the maritime arena offers one particularly enticing opportunity for further growth. Preliminary estimates from RNG Coalition’s Demand Expansion Committee indicate that an LNG-fueled ship can readily use 100 tons of LNG per day, or over 5,200 MMBTUs — roughly the daily output of a landfill project producing 1.9 million MMBTUs/year.

2025 marked a meaningful pivot toward maritime engagement within RNG Coalition, guided by the work of the newly created Demand Expansion Committee and Maritime Task Force, the latter of which was formed to position liquified biomethane (Bio-LNG) and other renewable gas-derived marine fuels as compliance and decarbonization solutions for global shipping.

“New demand potential for RNG is endless,” Escudero said onstage at RNG Conference. “When we figure out how to make project economics pencil out — and we will — we can deliver RNG for maritime or Sustainable Aviation Fuel; sell and monetize CO2 to beverage manufacturers, and supply power to utilities to satisfy an insatiable demand created by the technology we hold in our hands.”
