Close to 1,400 natural gas stations set to service clean transport industry in 2026

December 16, 2025. The Transport Project (TTP) recently released its Q4 2025 NGV Refueling Infrastructure Report, revealing a positive trend in compressed natural gas (CNG) station availability nationwide. As they set to begin 2026, the number of existing stations in the United States has risen to 1,385 stations dispensing CNG and 81 stations dispensing liquified natural gas (LNG).

Top states with CNG stations include California (318), Oklahoma (99), Texas (95), Pennsylvania (72), Florida (59), Georgia (49), Wisconsin (44), New York (44), Ohio (43), and Utah (40). Operational CNG stations exist in 47 states plus the District of Columbia.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • A two percent increase in CNG stations coming online year-over-year.
  • 53 percent of CNG stations are publicly accessible.
  • 46 percent offer heavy-duty Class 8 truck access.
  • 51 percent of CNG stations nationwide directly dispense renewable natural gas (RNG).

The most recent reportable data from the California LCFS program lists the Bio-CNG mix dispensed in that state at -218.89 gCO2e/MJ, allowing NGV fleets fueling in the Golden State to achieve a carbon-negative transportation outcome. Last year, 86 percent of all natural gas motor fuel dispensed for transportation use in the United States was RNG.
