December 17, 2024. Waga Energy and G2 Energy have joined forces to develop two RNG (Renewable Natural Gas) production projects in the United States. These projects will be based on landfills operated by Recology in California.
These are the first two contracts signed by Waga Energy in the West coast of the US, and are in line with our development strategy in the North American market. These RNG production units bring to 11 the number of projects currently under construction in the United States, in addition to two units already in operation.
Thanks to WAGABOX® technology, these two units will offset the emission of around 70,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent each year. This represents the annual emissions associated with the energy consumption of nearly 8,500 US households, or the greenhouse gas emissions generated by nearly 15,000 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles in the course of a year.
RNG production, scheduled for 2026, will be injected directly into Pacific Gas & Electric’s (PG&E) natural gas network. Currently, the biogas extracted from these sites is valorized in the form of electricity. Its upgrade into RNG, made possible by WAGABOX® technology, will optimize energy yield while offering a local, sustainable and renewable alternative to fossil natural gas.
