April 27, 2022. NGVAmerica, a national trade association representing natural gas and renewable transportation businesses, released its Start Now – RNG is How Report detailing how America’s freight fleets can significantly lower fuel costs, achieve cleaner air, and decarbonize miles by transitioning to affordable and available renewable natural gas (RNG)-fueled trucks.
“Fleets looking to drastically lower their fuel costs, ensure upcoming U.S. EPA Clean Truck Rule compliance, and reduce their environmental footprint should consider transitioning to RNG-fueled vehicle technology,” said NGVAmerica President Daniel Gage. “This report explains RNG vehicle availability, describes existing fueling infrastructure, and details how RNG fleets can achieve significant cost savings over retail diesel – up to $2.60/gallon cheaper exclusive of federal tax credits.”
Today’s natural gas vehicles (NGVs) are proven, durable, scalable, and in operation on roadways now. They are cost effective, with far lower incremental costs over diesel than electric or hydrogen options still in development. And NGVs provide immediate emissions improvement over diesel – both in terms of criteria pollutant and carbon reduction.
Emissions reductions made now have cumulative impact for fleets later. And as a drop-in fuel for existing natural gas vehicle technology, RNG is an inclusive, long-term, no regret solution with immediate impact.
And in conjunction with the report release, NGVAmerica announces an effort to support transition of the nation’s trucking fleet to NGV technology. Its NGV Fleet Academy is a four session “live” virtual event series Thursdays from 1:00-2:30 p.m. ET in May and June starting May 19, 2022, with presentations by faculty comprised of NGVAmerica member company experts.
